一、斷句

1. I come to China / at an important time. （口譯：我到中國來訪問，正逢一個重要的時刻。）

2. They built the bridge / in two months. （口譯：他們建這座橋，只花了兩個月。）

3. Aristotle, the greatest of the ancient Greek writers, / had written a work containing all the knowledge of his time. （口譯：亞里士多德，這位最偉大的古希臘作家，曾寫了一部囊括同時代所有知識的著作。）

4. It is nevertheless many years since / our two worlds first touched. (口譯：但是，很久以前我 們兩個世界就開始接觸了。)

5. Several more fundamental proposals are advanced / for consideration by the General Assembly / for possible action in the longer term. (口譯：一些更基本的建議也提了出來，供大會審議，以便采取更長期的行動。)

16. They will get the preparation done / before considering other proposals. （口譯：他們要把準 備工作做完，然后再考慮其他建議。）

二、反說 先變后：

1. First of all, let’s make a rollcall before we put the draft resolution to vote.（讓我們首先點點 名，然后我們再把決議付諸表決。）

2. He had carefully read through the instructions before doing his experiment. （他仔細通讀了 說明書，然后才開始進行實驗。）

3. We shall decide on procedural matters before we start a general debate．（我們將決定程序問 題，然后再開始一般性辯論。）

4. More tests should be conducted before we can come to a conclusion．（需要進行更多的實 驗，然后我們才能得出結論。）

5. Hence the French Government reflected at length and scrutinized the Treaty’s provisions carefully, taking into account also the progress of related work，before deciding to ratify this new international agreement． （所以法國政府非常認真地考慮并仔細審查了該條約的各項條款，考慮了有關工作的進展，然后才決定批準這個國際協(xié)定。） 后變先：

1. Nothing is more harmful to the peaceful settlement of the dispute than his ill-timed statement．（對于沖突的解決，最有害的就是他這篇不合時宜的講話。）（中文里直接用否定句開頭的情況比較少，一旦開了頭比較難順下去。像這樣的句子應避免否定式開頭，如“沒有任何事情??。”）

2. No nation can live in peace without these principles．（任何國家要和平生存就必須遵守這些 原則。）

3. The air of lowlands is not so cool as that of hills．（低地的空氣比山上的空氣暖和一些。）

4. Not until the jet engine had come into use could planes travel at supersonic speeds．（直到噴 氣發(fā)動機開始使用時，飛機才能以超音速飛行。）

5. Nothing could show more clearly that South Africa has over-come the shadows of its cast．（這 最清楚地表明：南非已經(jīng)擺脫昔日的陰影。）

6. Brazil is not insensitive to the question you have raised．（巴西關心您提出的問題。）

7. I could not agree more with you．（我完全同意您的意見。）

8. I would fail in my duty if I did not mention the tremendous assistance rendered by the Secretariat．（我有職責提及秘書處所提供的巨大支持。）（雖然這句話中沒有no或not等否定詞，但fail一詞含有否定的意思，所以也可以用反句正譯的方法來處理。）

9. No one would accumulate weapons and war materials if not with the idea of some day using them．（人們儲存武器和戰(zhàn)爭物資，就是想到有朝一日可能要使用這些東西。）
